Hi Real Self, I’m Doctor Joseph Perlman from Houston Texas and I’m joining you live from the ASAPS 2016 meeting in Las Vegas to answer your top questions. One of the areas that I have a specialty in, in cosmetic surgery, is revision Breast Augmentation. This occurs in patients who’ve had breast augmentation and they start to develop some of the problems that can occur, such as bottoming out, when the breast implant goes to the bottom portion of the breast pocket, and the nipple rides upward or when they get lateralization or moving of the breast implant to underneath the armpit, many of my patients call this an armpit breast. The way we treat this is by using a special material that is placed internally to serve as an internal brazier to help support the breast and minimize the chances of this reoccurring. Dr. Perlman: When you inject, you inject just inside the line.
Reporter: 64-year-old Shelby Wilson works hard to stay youthful, and she’s excited there’s finally a permanent non-surgical solution to banish wrinkles.
Shelby Wilson: As you age a little bit, you know you start noticing all these little things.
Reporter: Dr. Joseph Perlman cools Shelby’s face with an ice cube. This not only numbs the area to reduce pain, but shrinks blood vessels, so her face won’t bruise.
Dr. Perlman: …And we inject as we pull out.
Reporter: You can’t see them, because they’re microscopic, but this fluid is full of tiny beads.
Dr. Perlman: It contains what they call polymethyl methacrylate beads. These are little beads that are about 30 microns in diameter. There are six million of these per CC of the BellaFill solution.
Reporter: Those tiny beads cause the body to form scar tissue around the body, which will plump up wrinkle lines. Shelby will instantly see results after this session, and it will get better over the next few months.
Shelby Wilson: I think it will just make me feel a little better, with a little more confidence maybe.
Reporter: BellaFill can’t be used everywhere on the face.
Dr. Perlman: It’s FDA approved for the nasal labia fold line and also the line down here.
Reporter: You may be wondering, “Does it hurt?”
Shelby Wilson: Well, it’s uncomfortable, but it’s, you know, not that bad.
Reporter: It’s worth it to you?
Shelby Wilson: It’s worth it to me, yes.
Reporter: It only takes about six injections on each side. All the redness mostly comes from ice packs.
Dr. Perlman: Then, I massage the BellaFill, so that it gets a little smoother feel to it.
Reporter: Shelby will only have to get one more touchup in about three months, and the results are supposed to last forever.
